Does anyone know anywhere with a good reputation that will sell me some? I'm after the trad mauve ones not the new hybrids.

Or are they easy to raise from cuttings? Not that I would just go and casually snip some out of someone else's garden without asking depending on whether I was sober at the time

Traditional Bowles Blue very easy from cuttings, but I forgot last year and lost my plant over winter. Suggest postcard in Post Office or similar as its a bit late for buying a plant now, alternatively, Thomson Morgan used to sell seed.

Thanks shodatin!

Amazingly I found one at the local flower market do te day after I posted. Have taken a couple of cuttings off it already, wasn't sure exactly what to do so dipped in rooting powder, stuck in compost and will hope for the best. It's not a bad sized plant for £5 so if the first lot don't take I can always try a couple more. Do they need anything special? They're in the greenhouse at the mo but was wondering if it might get a bit warm for them in there?

You were so lucky to find a plant! (although I've never paid more than £2..)
I'd say greenhouse is ok until cuttings well-rooted and you've done just the right thing if compost is well-draining and doesn't dry out.
Congratulations and hope they give you pleasure next year too.

Thanks, I was a bit Hmm at the price too but then I have had four cuttings and one broken twig that I doubt will survive off it, and it is still big enough to make an impact. Has four flower spikes already, three in flower and one about to come in. I really love the graduated shades of purple. Hopefully I will manage not to kill my investment!
