Any climbing roses that thrive in a large pot?

I would really like to try to grow a red climbing rose up an old brick wall - however, the area I'm thinking of is decked, so it would not be possible to plant the roots of the rose into the ground. Are there any varieties of climbing rose that would thrive in a large pot or planter? (I have a patio clematis that is thriving beautifully in a pot, but wasn't sure about roses). Any advice would be great - thank you.

I've got one in a pot at present, until I clear it's permanent home. Downside of a container is getting sufficient water to roots in a big enough pot as the plant gets older/larger.
My climbing rose is "Compassion" (peachy-coloured, not red) but whatever colour you choose remember a climber's branches will need support & tieing in, whereas a standard-trained or weeping=style rose might be a better choice for a pot.

Monty Don mentions planting 'Souvenir du Docteur Jamain' in pots on either side of his back door. It is red/purple and likes north facing walls. Not sure if it is strictly a climber though, or if you could just train it/tie it in.
