I am a tree junkie

We have a moderate sized front garden and I've gone and planted two horse chestnut trees from conkers that I collected from MIL's when pregnant. They have grown and grown and grown and are now looking happy, but I'm worried because I know I shouldn't have done it.

I also have a maple that planted itself and a mountain ash. I also have a mountain ash in my back garden and a sycamore in the chicken run which planted itself.

Is there any way I could retain these wonderful trees without them growing so big that they take over the entire street? Is it possible to kind of keep them a moderate size or is that just fantasy?

I can't face getting rid of them because I have a thing about trees and I'd be so upset if they had to be cut down. They're all about 12 foot now and are so happy to be in my garden, they reward me with more growth Smile

There is not much chance for the chestnut trees, no idea about the maple.
The mountain ash (rowan) can be kept in check, which variety is it?

The mountain ash is a wild one. They both just appeared in my garden one year, so I let them grow.

I feel sorry for the horse chestnuts. I wish I'd planted them in the wild now Sad

could you move the horse chestnuts to the wild?

I think they're too big to dig up now. It could be done, but I doubt that dh would be happy Sad
