spring bulbs - what do I do about them now?

So obviously the show's over for the daffs, hyacinths, most of the tulips too. I've deadheaded but now what? I have a lot of leaves making the beds look a mess and I want to plant some annuals and perennials there anyway now.

I also want to move most of the bulbs anyway as I just chucked them in last year to get a bit of spring colour. When do I dig them all up and how do I store them until next year, or do I plant them again immediately?

Spare bit of ground ? Uproot and replant water and feed. Once the leaves have died down you can store them until the Autumn.

If not bung them in a gro bag or pots. If you cut them back now they will not have time to store food for next years show.

Other than that compost them and start again in the Autumn.

I tend to compost daffs. and narcissi each year as they are cheap to buy. My tulips were all expensive so they stay put or are moved if I need the space.

Hope that helps.

you need to leave the leaves for a few weeks so they will reflower next year

thanks that's great. I wasn't that keen on the daffs anyway so good idea to compost those. Will wait it out for the others, esp the tulips as they were fab.

You don't have to lift your tulips or daffs.

I leave mine in the ground and they come up every year - have been fine for past six years.

Apparently giving them some plant food once they've finished flowering helps them next year. I've tried it first time this year so obviously don't know if it works yet!
