Does anyone know what kind of plant this is?

DD (aged 2) brought home a pot of soil from nursery for Mother's Day and said she's planted something in it. The nursery staff didn't know what type of plants they'd planted Hmm but I've kept it on the kitchen windowsill and faithfully watered it and its finally started to grow.

But its bugging me because I don't know what it is. Am I to expect lovely flowers? Do I need to put it outside?

I've put a photo on my profile page - if anyone has any ideas I'd love to know!

It looks like an Anemone plant to me, the leaves are certainly the sameSmile

What MelinaM said although it also looks a bit like ground elder to me as well Shock

Thanks for your replies - I've just googled anemone and you're right the leaves do look like that. Just read a bit about it and it looks as though it should be planted outside. Maybe I'll give it a little longer in the pot to get bigger and then plant it out.

Just also searched for ground elder and I'm hoping its not that!

It's not ground elder don't worry! If nursery had decided to plant an invasive weed as a mother's day plant they'd need their heads read. i agree it looks Anemone-like, give it a few more days for the leaves to pop out a bit more :) Looks like it's doing well.

peeriebear - you clearly haven't met the staff at DD's nursery Wink. They are lovely and look after DD very well but the look of utter blankness on their faces when I asked what type of plant it is was quite amusing.

I'm sure it is Anemones, you should be in for a treat. They are ideal for young children to plant as they are big seeds. You can put it in a pot outside in the sun. You may have a comination of blue and pink/red flowers. They will come back next year.

I was only kinda kidding about it being ground elder. It does however look quite similar...
