What can I grow for the christmas fayre 3rd Dec?

I've been asked to do a stall at the school fayre this year and because I run the gardening club at school I thought it would be good to do something assocaited with this.

Not sure what to do though. I thought about plant and seed donations to sell or a plant swap but might be the wrong time of year. I'm planning to make some cards and gift tags with seeds in them to plant. But I'm a bit stuck otherwise. Any suggestions? Will have to come out of my own pocket so needs to be cheap. We planted a few hyacinth bulbs with the club so could try to persuade the kids to sell those but wondered if there was anything else (cheap) I could plant up now in time to sell. Its only a month away though.

Any other ideas? Help!

How about some kitchen windowsill herbs?

Crocus?

If I plant Crocus in pots now will they be up in 4 weeks time? If so it would be a good one as they are cheap and cheerful.

Not sure about the herbs. Nice idea but will they have grown.

Maybe I should sell surprise pots. Blank soil! Wait and see what comes up!

What about the sensitive plant? I know you can grow it any time of year - don't know how slow it is though.

I got some from M&S that came with little glass vases a bit like Hyacinth ones so I would presume they would come up.

Or why not sell them as a set so people can plant them themselves?

Crocus come out early spring so maybe the set idea might be good?

If you go to a nursery they may have trays of hyacinths which you can buy and plant up - either 3 or 5 to a bowl. They will tell you when they should be flowering, many nurseries will have geared themselves up for Christmas sales of hyacinth - get in there before they plant them all up themselves.
Or a mixed bowl with a primula, fern and hyacinth in it plus a red ribbon on wire stuck in soil.
Approach a local garden centre/nursery and ask them about plants which they may let you take on a sale or return basis.

Do you know anyone good at woodwork? dibbles are very straightforward or a twine holder is a bit more advanced. Have seen items like this for sale at craft fairs.
