Can I put the BBQ dust in the compost bin?

I got a BBQ last week and we used it on Wednesday, being a total spanner I have no idea whether I can put the coal stuff in our green recycling bin.
I phoned our local council but they seem to have gone home for the weekend.
Normally it is just for garden waste which gets taken away, composted and then you can go to the tip to take some away.
We are in Belgium if that makes any difference.

I knew I could rely on TobyTomato for an answer. Thanks.

I was reading about this the other day.

If it is natural charcoal or wood then yes but if it is commercial charcoal briquettes then no as they contain chemicals that help them to burn better.

They went in the bin and the compostable stuff is out on the kerb now.
I have no idea what sort of coal it is. It was 5 euros and doesn't burn well.
