Foolproof slug repellents? Please?!

I don't use slug pellets.

This year the little bastards are eating my veg seedlings before they've even broken the soil!

The ones they're getting to are on the top shelf of one of these. But I know that's only the start, and they'll be all over everything once things are properly sprouting :(

I doubt any police would arrest you for taking frogspawn though!

Thank you for the garlic recipe.
I save my seedlings by delaying planting-out as long as possible (older=tougher) and save washed ,crushed egg-shells to sprinkle around, plus any old holly leaves if not digging. Have also had success around patio pots throwing out used coffee-grounds, which they seem to avoid and are safe for toddlers and pets.

Touch wood no slugs or snails here this year, but do seem to have a family of hedeghogs that live in the garden and a couple of toads which is weird because we don't have a pond, but as I say no slugs so they can stay.
