growing herbs indoors - can I use coffee grounds instead of compost?

I want to grow chilies on my windowsill, more a project for my preschooler than for actual eating.

my sister told be that I can just use coffe grinds instead of soil/compost.

anyone done this?

I would not really want to buy a whole load of compost just for one smal flower pot...

Have always just used compost - other possiblily might be buying a pot of living herbs that are planted (from the supermarket) and then using or freezing herbs before recycling the compost.

You will need some sort of compost, the coffee leftovers are a good mulch and a bit of a boost but not really good enough to grow chillis in.

How about buying a kit that comes with a pot and some compost?

Does your preschooler like chilies?
I'd grow something they can eat, or sprinkle on pizza.

no he doesn*t like chillies, but we were given the seeds when eating mexican... I have some pots from one of those sets, but after our holidays all plants had died and I trew them out.
