Someone recently mentioned to me that they put their bonfire and fire ash on their compost... anyone else do this?

Is it beneficial?

Thanks.

Hi,

My mother used to put the ash from the fire in the compost heap, also straight on to lavender bushes, and they always looked amazing.

Yes, do it. Tis great stuff [hsmile]

Yes, but don't over do it.

Make sure it's a good proportion of veg matter too and try to mix it up. That's what I was told!

Only if it's wood ash vs coal. Not too much as has been said above, it makes the darling little worms cough and they are doing all that work for you!

Yes be careful - I think wood ash is ok but NOT coal ash, it's got nothing useful in it. Apparently it's good for paths in the winter - keeps them dry so I'm told.

I believe coal/charcoal ash is quite toxic. Wood ash is great though.
