Flowers or food... What should I pant in a baldy boarder

I have a boarder about 15 foot long and about 18" wide.

Im a complete novice at gardening. Im going to the garden centre this afternoon to buy some plants to fill this boarder, but I dont know what to fill it with.

Any ideas?

Try some flowering shrubs. Things like fuschia are hardy and pretty. Vinca for floor coverage... Don't know much about gardening but that's what I have put into similar border and they seem to be doing well and are easy to look after.

I did have a little Fushia but my dog trampled on it. grrr

Im going to put a bit off netting over the boarder to keep him off. Stapled to the fence.

Is the border in sun or shade?

It gets the sun all day until about 4pm

It depends what you want. In a few months any annuals or perennials will disappear until next Spring. If you want year round interest, small shrubs are best.

Bulbs are also great for colour and value. If you plant some in the next few months - say allium, tulip etc you will have some great colour in your border ( boarder - someone who stays at boarding school - pedant, sorry )from April - June/July.

Love your nickname btw.

I thorght boarder looked wrong but as I cant even spell plant today...Confused Im having one of those days.

Anyway, I went to the Garden centre. I bought 3 small shrubs, 3 perennials which were going for half price, and some winter bedding plants.

Hopefully it will look okay over the next comming months. I thorght I may as well get a few small or cheap plants that will look better by next year. Then once they are established, I can add some more.

Garden centre said it will be a few weeks before the winter veg plants come in, so I think I might have a go at growing some in a few patio pots.
