on planting new plants, I have been told 'water them well'....

I am a novice gardener and have recently planted.
(I know planting in Autumn was probably a better idea but I ordered online and the things arrived within 2 days!)...

They are New Zealand flax, aubretia, pittosprum and daphne odora.

I am watering well every morning..........is this enough?

Don't want them to die, but don't want to overwater them either.

How much is 'water them well'??

Better to put them in now than let them roast in pots.

If the ground is still wet from yesterday you don't need to water it again today. 'water it well' means give it a good watering when you plant it then don't let it dry out. Daily watering shouldn't be necessary unless it's really hot and sunny.

One good watering per week is much better than a little sprinkle every day.

Yes agree with oldenough but in v. hot weather better to water at night and to use rain water.

Water recently planted shrubs every other day in dry weather. It is to establish the roots, when the plant looks healthy, ie, a good colour and putting on growth, you can lessen this to once a week.

The expression "water them well" means do not just wet the surface of the soil (this encourages roots to grow at the top of the plant and is damaging for them) instead give each plant a good penetrating soak to reach the roots so that the roots can travel downwards and find damp, even in dry conditions.
