buxux sempervirens Query?

Hello - was going to buy 2 x buxux conical shaped items but they were £60 each so have decided to opt for growing my own.

have found a website selling them for a couple of quid per plant (about 20-30cm) but it seems there are bare root/root ball/cell grown plants.

Sorry to be thick but what's the difference?

bare root just means it will be shipped to you with no soil, ie the root exposed, some plants can take being transported like this. buxus sempervirens grows very slowly - am sure you know this.

yep - I know. I want some topiary though and I can't afford to buy them at that price and thinhk it will be fun growing my own.
FIL grows it himself and has done a really cute circular mini hedge. He has lots of cuttings for their new house when they move so can't really ask him to give up some cuttings to me.
Thanks for the info - will order some now.

ooh- do you know also whether I just need one plant per topiary pot, so to speak or will I need more than one clumped together?
You tell I'm a real gardeing novice can't you?
