Im not sure if this is the correct place to post this but ds is choosing Level 3 options and games development is one option. Anyone know what sort of jobs would be open to him if he persued this? Could he work for himself or from home if he got good at it. (He has some special needs which would make this better for him)

He could work for himself, and make a living, but anything other than basic games is just not practical as a one man band these days, for instance if you are thinking of complicated desktop computer games!
One of my daughter's friends and her husband run a small games company - just the two of them - mostly word games I think. Way back she and DS worked for a while and got experience at the same small company ... it produces games for phones which I think is the main platform for small or single person games companies.
This is my daughter's friend's website which may give an idea of the sort of games practical to develop as a very small company.
