Business course Falmouth Uni

DD keen to do a business management degree next year. Currently ‘on a gap year’! Traveling and working. She has her heart set on Falmouth. She is an outdoorsy person and really doesn’t want to study and live in a large city. She has A,C,C grades. We have looked at the Exeter course that is based at Falmouth campus but I don’t think she has the grades. So would be applying for Falmouth uni itself. Has anyone else got experience of Falmouth business degree courses? Everyone says Falmouth is super artsy and lovely but I haven’t heard much about the business courses…. We are writing pros and cons and the pros of being happy where you live and study are coming out top. Yet I don’t want the course to be a flop for her! Any advice gratefully received. Ps we have also looked at apprenticeships, but she is keen on meeting lots of new young people and moving away etc.

Look at the Complete University Guide for Business and Management degrees. It’s ranked 108 out of 123. Its grad employment stats are 51%. In my view - it’s poor. So is she actually looking at any rankings at all? The employment prospects are not encouraging. Her choice is heart over head!

I think this university really exists to educate Dc from Devon and Cornwall and others who want surfing and the lifestyle there. For me, I’d look at the CUG and plug in her results. There must be better than this to spend your/her money on? Surely studying somewhere with more bouyant employment prospects is paramount? There’s a reason you don’t know much about it.

Look at the stats for somewhere like Reading. Much more impressive. Nottingham Trent, Portsmouth and Oxford Brookes make sense too. My search also came up with Loughborough and Leeds. Not sure if that’s accurate but worth a look.

We have looked at CUG, put the UCAS points in. It’s really difficult as the ‘better’ ranked universities do come up but then when you click into the entry requirements it’s a different story and asks for A,A,A.

Agree with the above. If it’s costal vibes she’s after, there are other more rural universities which are much higher ranked which would accept her grades. For example Aberystwyth needs 96-120 UCAS points (she seems to have 112) and the CUG rank it 45th for Business and Management.

Aber would be a reasonable choice and remote. NTU or OB are both possible and Reading with high employment rates might require a foundation year. I’ve no idea which of these courses were in clearing and whether they took lower than advertised tariffs. That would be useful info.
