Can anyone tell me if student who recently lost a parent would be eligible for discretionary 16-19 bursary funding for a 6th form curriculum trip abroad?

My condolences if you are also grieving. Not very helpful but it will come down to the school/college policy, and most likely will be based on your income..

You might get some good general advice from this organisation

Yesin theory. I ran bursary jn my school. All y12s y13s were eligible, ask for copy of criteria. Depends on household income. You have to keep pushing. All secondaries have a bursary pot , separate to pp budget.

Thank you so much for the replies. It’s not for me but for DCs friend. It would be because the family won’t really know what’s happening with income at the moment so the DC won’t want to ask parent for the trip money but A level classes are small and I’d hate them to be the only one to not go.

When school reopens I thought I’d have a confidential conversation with the school and see if they might be able to sort it.
I wouldn’t want the family to have to prove income as it’s all so up in the air.
