Rejecting a deferred entry offer

DD applied to a uni for a deferred entry place which she had not seen due to clash of timings with open days and weekend job (and very inflexible boss). Her college made her apply for a place this year.
As she knew she was going to have a Gap year she thought that she would look at all the unis properly in the following year and reapply once she has her results as she wants to do a slightly different course.
When she gets her results, is it best to withdraw her application altogether and start afresh? Would she then be able to submit pretty much the same personal statement but slightly updated? Her friends say she should accept the offer and then request a change of course and potentially uni quite early on. Their justification is that all her paperwork will then be in place.
I’d love some advice so that I can hopefully guide her in the right direction.

Not clear what her friend is suggesting. If she definitely does not want the existing offer her options are to withdraw and reapply(she can essentially use the same application but might want to include any plans for the year) or look at Clearing for 2025 entry.
