How does clearing work with creative arts?

DC1 is planning a gap year, so won't be applying to unis next academic year (Y13). However, if she changes her mind towards the summer, is clearing a possibility for arts subjects? She's thinking of something design-oriented (jewellery or products, maybe glass and ceremics). These are courses that generally require portfolio submission, but I can't see how that's possible over clearing.

She would call up with her grades, and if they want to see a portfolio she’ll need to email it over asap to the admissions staff who are working that day for a decision.

Thank you! So just a generic portfolio? It feels like every uni has very specific and separate guidelines for what a portfolio can be.

Each uni has different requirements. Some don’t ask to see a portfolio at all. Some ask to see a sample. Some ask for certain formats/mediums, or with/without a commentary.

Clearing places are now available to see on the UCAS website, have a look at which (if any) sound interesting and see what the requirements are. Your child can even phone to ask (& build a relationship/find out more). They might be more flexible over the format of portfolio during Clearing.

Don’t wait till results day, when places go v quickly. Do the prep work now.

Each university will have their own requirements for a portfolio but they are generally more flexible with clearing because of the quick turnaround required
