How Independent are your Children after School?

How reliant are your children on you and living at home?
Do they know how to be resilient in uncomfortable situations and conversations and in life in general?
Do they know how to think critically and act autonomously?
Are they confident and prepared for the future life challenges that are coming their way - finances, relationships, good nutrition - cooking for themselves.

If they aren't what are you doing about it - being the responsible parent you are?
Have you got all the tools to ensure they can become independent of you, that they have the tools to take action, avoid missed opportunities and achieve lasting success for themselves?

Did school teach the everything they need to know to get on with life? Have you taught them everything you know and still feel they can't survive in this world?

I would love to hear your views on this.

Gosh, that's a lot of questions!

My DD is a 'work in progress' having had MH issues in her teens.
Considering what she has been through she is pretty resilient to still be moving forward, albeit slowly.

What are your views?

DD just did her A-levels and will be off to uni in September if all goes well.

She had severe MH issues 4 years ago we are still recovering from incl. several ND diagnosises. But together with her therapist we are working on general housekeeping topics.

I am a banker so I am drumming financial topics into her since she got her debit card at 11.
She knows about debt, mortgages, savings and taxes.

We also made sure she is confident going around by public transport incl. making her way around London on her own.

She discovered cooking and is actually really good. She had some Vit C issues so learnt about being careful what she eats.

Her main issue is talking to people. She can email but phoning the GP is a thing we haven't managed yet.

All these are tasks the parents should cover. School is not responsible but I would think learning how interest work on a debt/saving account can easily been incorporated into a math lesson. The same with taxes.
