A Level Accounting

Does anybody have any experience of this subject? My son has decided he might like to do it. Is there very hard maths involved? Is it really boring? It would be alongside Business A Level. I think they go well together. Hes not good enough at Maths to do Maths A level. So would he struggle with this? Its so hard as applications due in this week and its stressing me out. I dont want him to pick the wrong subject.

A level accounting is pretty pointless and boring. It's really not much help for someone wanting to go into accountancy, and not much help for anything else really either. It's also a pretty antiquated syllabus now that book-keeping etc is mostly computerised via software/apps.

If someone wants to get into accountancy, then following the AAT qualification route/apprenticeship would be far better and open more doors.

For A level choice alongside business studies, I'd suggest a humanity or a science, or better still, Maths, depending upon how good their GCSE's were. Like others have said, economics doesn't give a broad range of subject matter when done alongside business studies.

I did GCSE and A'level accounts. Thoroughly enjoyed the subject and went straight into it after school. Apart from a motherhood break, I have worked in accounts roles for years doing various exams etc along the way. My other A'levels were humanities. I was also absolutely useless at maths.

I don't know but Core Maths might be worth a look. The syllabus looks quite "real world" and includes some financial stuff. And because it's an add on, if he finds it too hard he can just drop it.

Not much help in identifying a 3rd A level but it might fit really well alongside his other ideas, if he is interested in accountancy more as a career than an A level.
