I'm waiting to hear back from my tutor, for the meantime I would like to hear, how much is it for the canned lentils?

7 x 0.87? It looks like the word can has been missed out, the other items are sold by kg not by can

georgepigg · 17/12/2024 13:05

So 7x .87? The left hand chart is cut off so not sure if that’s actually what you’re asking. £6.09?

CitiesInDust · 17/12/2024 13:05

Just seven tins at 87p each? So £6.09.

Dearg · 17/12/2024 13:06

7 x £0.87 = £6.09.

Radionowhere · 17/12/2024 13:07

I'm assuming your query is whether the 87p is unit price or total price? It's logical to assume it's unit price here, as it's unit price for the weighed items, so 87p x 7.

TotallyTwisted · 17/12/2024 13:07

Come on, I am rubbish at maths and even I can work this one out!

Zoflorabore · 17/12/2024 13:07

£6.09 I did it in my head. What level maths is this?

georgepigg · 17/12/2024 13:12

No need to be mean, maths is really hard for some people for whatever reason. Just like reading or cardio or French or music is hard for others. I used a calculator!

ThereIsALifeOutThere · 17/12/2024 13:23

The £0.87 doesn’t specify what it covers. Unlike the other items (eg price per kg).
The logic is that it’s 7x0.87 but sometimes, examiners can be awkward….. and the answer is £0.87 for 7 cans…..

EDIT TO ADD
rereading the list, I’m actually pretty sure the total cost is £0.87, like the other items like the eggs or the biscuits where only the total price is mentioned.

Dobybert · 17/12/2024 13:26

I know it's simple, got the same calculation as everyone under the thread, apparently that's wrong, I did try another way, apparthays wrong so I'm not sure what to do

How annoying! So it's more of a reading comprehension test than arithmetic? Confused

Garlicwest · 17/12/2024 13:32

Apart from which, where the fuck is he finding lentils at 12.42857142857143 pence a can??

kindlyensure · 17/12/2024 13:34

It would irritate me that the money is in £ but the language is American. You could argue that he 'picked up' 7 but might have put 2 back. If it is in Sterling it should be 'bought' .

Also 87p for 7 'cans' is crazy cheap.

I too thought that, but that's also wrong he didn't find it for that much either

Maybe @kindlyensure's right, then - he picked them up and put them down again 😂

Not sure that this argument stands. Other items are priced as per kg - so why wouldn't lentils be priced per can?

HPandthelastwish · 17/12/2024 14:35

If it's an American worksheet you need to add on sales tax 🤣

I assumed the same after my first answer was wrong but in the next question you're supposed to round it to the nearest £1 and it's still wrong, I just wanted to prove to myself I wasn't crazy, I have to do this assessment to start a course and u cost progress until I complete it. I know that this assessment is a little dodgy because I've seen multiple spelling mistakes throughout, I have to wait for my tutor to come off holiday

As are most Numeracy questions, particularly at L2.

DecayedStrumpet · 17/12/2024 16:17

Well, as a scientist... if one of my DC had written that table I'd be saying WAS IT 87P PER LENTIL THEN?!

Mind you I've been reminding them about units since they were tiny and it's in one ear out the other.

Also don't like the 'picked up' americanism but hey.

TeenToTwenties · 17/12/2024 16:17

In my experience online maths stuff regularly has wrong answers. If it isn't £6.09 it should ne!

DecayedStrumpet · 17/12/2024 16:20

Do you have to fill in each answer in that table on the left, and it is telling you your lentils are wrong? Can you guess random numbers till it's right?

Garlicwest · 17/12/2024 16:24

This online answer says £6.09 🤷‍♀️
