2 weeks off sixth form college

Ds2 is at 6th form college doing a levels. He is going to have an operation on his foot in a couple of months and today the nurse at the hospital said he would need 2 weeks off college afterwards to prevent infection and just in case someone stands on his foot. Ds cried, he has SEN, loves college and is devastated that he will have to take 2 weeks off. I am also concerned that he will fall behind as although it's been 25 years since I was doing a levels I know that it's very difficult to try and catch up on 2 weeks of work.

Is there a way around this? I asked ds2 if online learning is possible and he said he hadn't seen anyone else do it. Is there any way of protecting his foot so ds2 can go to college.

Can the op be timed for one of the holidays? Or overlap a half term break.
6th form could provide work from home resources. But agree it’s easy to fall behind.

hard call, in some ways he will be tired and having the foot dependent might throb and with activity rub and lead to infection (sweaty socks and boots etc).
but depending on how many classroom changes, the number of students and the footwear (maybe even a protective boot). i might consider him attending.
maybe rather than missing 2 full weeks he could attend some of the classes?

Ask them to do it just before the Easter holidays?

Talk to college and see what can be worked out. It shouldn't be insurmountable.
They can send work electronically, zoom the lesson.

Is he in first year or second year of sixth form? If the latter I would be strongly tempted to postpone the op until after his exams if at all possible.

Schools and colleges will provide work for cases like these so just give them plenty of warning as resources may need to be adapted, or he can be lent a course book to work independently from.

Delivering the lesson remotely may not be possible due to the set up but individual teachers may well be happy to do a one off over zoom/ Teams etc, or to go through the work before he goes off, or when he returns.

Talk to the college. They may be able to arrange for him to leave lessons a few mins early/ later and to have use of a quiet room for breaks.
