Changing 6th Form

My daughter has started her a levels in a sixth form but is saying that she is not enjoying going there and wants to change to another sixth form in the city. Some of her friends from school are at that one. She only started in September, has anyone’s child done this? I am not sure that it is even possible. Everything that I’ve read online is about changing sixth form after completing year 12, not part way through.

I teach 6th formers and it does happen, we have students go to a college at the end of Yr 11 but then decide it's not for them and rejoin us (or vice versa). It's a lot of catching up if they're switching subjects as well, but I've seen students make it work, however you'll need to check with the specific 6th form if they have a cut off for late transfers.

You need to contact the other sixth form and see if they are full for the A levels that she wants to study. It will be a yes/no answer. It's possible to withdraw from her current sixth form. The funding for 6th form colleges (not sixth forms in schools) is confirmed re the number of students on roll in November so there is still movement.
You should also read the admissions policy of the sixth form she wants to join to check you meet the criteria and if they operate a waiting list etc.

It's unlikely that another sixth form will take her now. It was census day yesterday, so sixth forms won't get funding for a new student starting this late.

It is possible and does happen.

When I taught sixth form there were one or two each year.

Be aware of cut offs.

Thanks all, they are both sixth forms at schools rather than colleges. Doesn’t sound good, re missing the census day.

Just check with the 6th form/college she's switching to- we've taken people in December before now.
