Dd is confused about what subjects. Looking to go into law maybe but struggling to let go of stem as she enjoys them however more gifted at essay ( got 9 for history and lit whereas got 7 for combined and 6 maths) Currently thinking history psychology biology/chemistry/econ. Definitely not maths or physics or English she says. Since she got a 6 if she did bio she would need to do core maths but she doesn't mind as she didn't want to let go of maths anyway. Any advice?

What is the reasoning behind definitely not English? I did a law degree and my A Levels were History, English Language, Religious Studies and Politics. English Language is the main one many look for in Law, History is a close second.

I wouldn't do chemistry as a stand alone science.

So:
history/psychology/bio
History/psychology/Economics
Would be my suggestions.

RS could fit in well?

A level biology has a very specific mark scheme that can trip students up. Unless your DD loves biology and needs it I would avoid it.

English Lit is better for Law. Reading and constructing an argument to make your point is useful for law. More so than language A level. History is good. Cambridge and Oxford both don’t specify Eng Language as the A level students offer. Oxford mentions Lit and Lang as a combined course. They all like History and MFLs for their Law courses. If not aiming for the elite courses that require LNAT I would say 2 essay subjects is still good.

At 6, maths isn’t strong so why do any A level
that requires it? So psychology and maths, sciences and economics aren’t great choices. Maybe Politics, Sociology, RE (or whatever it is at A level), or any A level that uses her strengths. Don’t go for ones that require the weaknesses.
