DS2 Y12 has only recently started think about the possibility of going to university.

He is also considering taking a gap year but wants to apply and defer if necessary.

His school is running a focus week next week to concentrate on UCAS forms etc. It would be good to have a place to start from!

What's the best place to search for course, look at grade requirements etc??

Most schools/colleges have access to Unifrog which is great, but I don't think accessible generally.
Otherwise, UCAS site and Whatuni.

The Complete University Guide came up on another thread recently and I have it open to go through with DS soon. I haven’t yet had a good look around the site but you can search by course. Good luck!

It's reassuring to know that someone else is at the same stage as us!
Feel like DS2 is in the minority as in he doesn't know what he wants to do and the clock is ticking!

DS does know but it’s quite specific so I’m trying to encourage him to look at broader choices as well in case he doesn’t get first choice.

I’d recommend having a good look through course content and modules, it could help to steer by elimination? I definitely don’t want to do that v oh that sounds interesting I hadn’t thought of that?

Also my DS is very much a I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it type person whereas I’m a long term planner so he has to be dragged into things that mean thinking about things way in advance.

There is a search tool that looks at actual grades of those accepted onto courses rather than standard offer.

Thanks all. DS2 is using Unifrog 👍🏻

SACU student is free and a good mix of different career and uni information.

I would say apply for uni even if they are uncertain because it's easier to say no or defer in august than to suddenly have a change of heart and want to apply later.

UCAS is good for all things uni, as well as the uni own sites
Read ALL the entry requirements (Inc. GCSE) and if in doubt, email the uni admissions team.
