Buying eng lit texts and study guides

Hello

so DD has asked me to buy her the texts she needs for second year A level eng lit / lang - first one is A Streetcar Named Desire.

what do people / DCs normally buy?

just the text eg penguin best seller version?

what about student editions?

Also are the study guides like (just example) York notes useful or essential or waste of money?

any recommendations most welcome.

thanks

Won't school/college have a 'preferred' publication, so when they say 'page 42 paragraph 2' everyone gets to the same bit?

@TeenDivided apparently not at DD’s college. Thanks

If college hasn't specified, any text will be fine. (We just bought the cheapest version from Amazon). At A Level they don't tend to read through together like they do at GCSE, so having your own text is more for the convenience of being able to make your own annotations/stick post it notes on key pages etc.

Has she used study guides for her first year texts? My DD found there was so much information available online that there was no need for them, but if your DD has used them previously then she might prefer that way of working.

Thanks for responding, I’ll look on Amazon! She didn’t use study guides so I’ll leave her to look online. I think she prefers that anyway. Thanks.
