IBCP or A-levels

Hi, my DD is in year 10 and wants to stay at her current school for sixth form. They offer either International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) or A-levels. She would like to be a scriptwriter/Director.

Her a-level choices would be English Literature, Psychology and Drama

Her school have a media course as part of the IBCP in Creative Media Production - where she would get practical hands on experience and as part of the course, she would create a media portfolio. She would also be able to do psychology but not English or Drama.

She is really torn with what to do. She can’t apply until September so no rush in deciding. Does anyone have any experience of the IBCP or any suggestions of which course would be better? She is a hard worker but does not excel academically, mainly due to getting very stressed in exams.

She loves English, it’s such a shame that she can’t do that with the IBCP.

Not many would know about IBCP OP!
We are in an IB school and they only allow changing to certificate if the student isn't coping with the full diploma.
I know with IBCP you accrue tarriff points and not all universities accept tariff points.
I would suggest you have a look at universities which may have the creative script writer sort of courses and see what the entry requirements are. If you have a few that take tariff points then you may be ok.
Shame the school doesn't allow mix and match.
Is there a Btech close by that would offer a mix of Btech and A levels?

Does the school not offer the full diploma programme?

There are very few schools that offer the IB at all in the uk and even fewer that offer the career programme.

In general the CP is aimed at students who are unlikely to be able to complete the full diploma.

Does she want to go to university? If so then a levels or DP would be the more known choices.

Students do go to university from the careers programme but it's more unusual.
