All welcome as our young people head in to their last full term before the summer exams. Between UCAS applications, receiving offers/rejections, learning to drive and taking driving tests, revising for mocks and sitting them the pace hasn’t let up for our DC.

This thread has been a lovely supportive and immensely helpful place to talk as we guide our DC’s through this challenging time!

My DS thought chem 1 (OCR) went well today. He's not an A** star student and is hoping for a B so goodness knows what he will actually get. He did 2018 past paper over the weekend and the grade boundary for an A on that one was 80%. Eye wateringly high!

TenSheds · 10/06/2024 17:32

@space99 I've also taken results day off. And the Friday, just in case!

Having one of those days. Fairly intense meetings, rained on washing, nipped out to collect DD from her exam ( the one she was most worried about, but went ok), then DH lost his phone (found at his meeting venue) and the cat was sick.
Glad I still have weekend wine left.

WriterOfWrongs · 10/06/2024 17:39

@Penguinsa thanks and I’m glad your art is continuing Wink

Am I right in thinking results day is 15 August? Haven’t discussed that with DD yet, it would make her anxious.

Penguinsa · 10/06/2024 19:14

Yes its the 15th.

Pleasealexa · 10/06/2024 19:33

My other dc waited for the Uni confirmation (hopefully confirming the place) and then went into school to get actual results. If they have their first choice I think there is less worry over actual grades as they will just be relieved.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 10/06/2024 19:53

As far as I know the system here is that the results come by email in the morning between 8.30 and 9.30 is what it said in the email last year. I think you can log into UCAS from 8am to see what has happened there. I don't think people go into college to collect.

Last year my nephew logged into UCAS to find he had been offered a different course at his 2nd choice so had to go to school knowing he hadn't made his grades. He went through clearing but ended up on a course that wasn't right for him, dropped out and has reapplied with grades in hand for this autumn.

I've heard that STEP results are available on the website from midnight on the 15th but not sure it would be wise to stay up late to check them! Best to leave it until the morning probably.

Jaxx · 10/06/2024 20:17

Unless it has changed since GCSE, they go in person to collect results from 8:30am. Lots of teachers go as well offer support to those who need it and congratulations to those who did well. The results were also out at 8:30am on the school system but this wasn’t publicised - I checked on the off chance and was glad I didn’t have to wait until he got round to ringing us.

I have also heard you can see what university has accepted you from earlier but not the actual grades from UCAS. He has said he will wait for his results, but I will be checking as soon as he heads out the door.

Latin prose went quite well today, History and Maths tomorrow.

WriterOfWrongs · 10/06/2024 20:26

@Jaxx how will you be able to check, do you have your DS’s UCAS login?

Jaxx · 10/06/2024 20:52

@WriterOfWrongs i do have it - well it is cached on one an iPad. He knows I will check and is fine as long as I keep it to myself before he looks.

WriterOfWrongs · 10/06/2024 20:58

@Jaxx that’s sweet. I can only imagine the look on DD face were I to suggest she tell me her password Grin

But DD is autistic and her having control of things to do with her independence is important.

Jaxx · 10/06/2024 21:14

My son is also autistic, but for him freedom is about doing what he wants when he wants which hasn’t actually changed up much over the years. He”d let me do all the boring life admin stuff if he could.

WriterOfWrongs · 10/06/2024 21:19

Oh my daughter wants to do all the boring life admin stuff herself!

Penguinsa · 10/06/2024 21:29

Well DH went to collect an order from Dunelm (not ready) and get the pizza but didn't check the order and they missed out DDs pizza and the drink. 🤔Its 30 mins away. Phoned and they said to fill in an online form and photograph the missing pizza. DD just ate the pizza I ordered so she is fine but I am not too impressed with Pizza Hut. DD is also getting quite inpatient, she asked exactly what time DH would be back I said about 8.30pm and it was 8.25pm and she said well I am taking a shower now to maximise my efficient use of time but it will be annoying if DH turns up at 8.30pm. He arrived at 8.33pm.

I wouldn't be brave enough to ask for DDs log-in but DS (asd) would have me do everything including the course and homework.

Aardvarksforall · 11/06/2024 07:02

DC has to go in for Results. They already have a confirmed place for September (theyve chosen to do a Foundation year before their degree) but it'll still be very stressful.

Rollergirl11 · 11/06/2024 09:53

DD also has to go in for results, I think from 9.30 onwards. I also have DD’s UCAS log-in saved on my phone.

LouisCatorze · 11/06/2024 10:43

Thanks for all your responses re Results Day.

DD has accepted a middling offer as her firm choice, even though she is fully intending to apply again (but to different unis, if her grades are good enough) for 2025 entry. So even a yay on the UCAS dashboard won't be super helpful in anticipating her results, unless she's done very badly and they turn her down.

Penguinsa · 11/06/2024 10:54

DD has just left to get the bus for afternoon maths exam. Think she just wants it over with. Then gap until 20th for the last one.

Rollergirl11 · 11/06/2024 11:45

Same for DD @LouisCatorze in that her firm offer is much lower than what she’s hoping to get so won’t be much of an indicator as to how well she’s done unless she’s done very badly.

DD just got back from her final History exam saying “I f*cked the exam, I hate everything and I want to die!” She’s laughing though so think she’s being melodramatic for jokes. Nothing now until her last RE exam next Monday. She’s giving herself a couple of days off this week (mass exodus to the pub has been planned for tonight) and will get back on it on Friday.

DS had Chemistry this morning, History this afternoon and then he has just 2 more exams Friday and next Tuesday when we will have officially finished A levels and GCSE’s!

Hope your DD is OK Rollergirl At least the exams are nearly over for both.

I have just hoovered now DD is out, I am supposed to keep quiet when she is in during exam period but Floof fluffs carpet tabby at a rapid rate. Though noise cancelling headphones help a lot for her.

Lightsabre · 11/06/2024 13:21

@Rollergirl11, hopefully she is just catastrophising and hasn't done as badly as she thinks. Hats off to you for managing the stress of both GCSE's and A levels - that can't be easy.

Ds also has maths this afternoon.

WriterOfWrongs · 11/06/2024 13:27

@Rollergirl11 I hope her laughing is a good sign and she was indeed jokingly overemphasising for dramatic effect.

QueenMabby · 11/06/2024 14:07

I'm hanging around town doing a few jobs and keeping busy while ds is at maths. Although he can drive himself I think he likes me to take him so he can zone out and doesn't have to worry about where to park!

Small break for us too after today - at least till Monday and the last push to the end.

Tealfish · 11/06/2024 15:40

Has anyone's DC's given any feedback on WJEC Maths paper 4 today? It's not gone well here and an A* is needed🙈Onwards and upwards, only 2 more to go and then they are off interrailing for over a month. Good luck all for these last few exams

QueenMabby · 11/06/2024 15:52

Not our board but DS also found his pretty tricky.

Penguinsa · 11/06/2024 16:28

DD isn't back yet but should have finished maths now but its not wjec. She might well go out with her boyfriend for dinner as he does maths too so probably won't see her until about 10pm tonight when he drives her home then comes to cuddle Floof. But at least its another one down and just one left on 20th (maths). She needs A star AA ideally but A star can be in anything.
