All welcome as our young people head in to their last full term before the summer exams. Between UCAS applications, receiving offers/rejections, learning to drive and taking driving tests, revising for mocks and sitting them the pace hasn’t let up for our DC.

This thread has been a lovely supportive and immensely helpful place to talk as we guide our DC’s through this challenging time!

Thanks Super Hope you all enjoy the very well deserved fancy meal in London. Sorry about your DDs ulcers.

LouisCatorze · 06/06/2024 11:56

DD seemed to save the best till last. Thought her Eng. Lit. paper two was the best of all her A Level exams. But already feeling a bit bored and a sense of anti-climax. She's the only one in her friendship group to have finished so far.

@Penguinsa good news that your cancer check-up was clear.

MrsAvocet · 06/06/2024 13:05

DS found physics (AQA) quite tough but doesn't seem too disheartened partly because all his friends felt the same and partly because paper 3 is his strongest by far so he's hopeful of a good mark still to come. Only maths on Tuesday next week so he's having a break for the rest of today.

QueenMabby · 06/06/2024 13:17

@MrsAvocet - my ds also said the (AQA) physics paper was hard. Unfortunately that's normally his best paper! But like your experience all his friends found it hard too so that's something. Even DS's friend who has an offer for NatSci at Cambridge was complaining about it!

DS's next one is Chem 1 on Monday and the Maths 2 on Tuesday too.

Penguinsa · 06/06/2024 13:33

Thanks Louis Congratulations on your DD finishing, must be good to have them over even if a bit strange to finish before others.

DD is not back yet, she often stays out with friends / boyfriend after exams but just the 2 maths to go now, Tues and 20th.

QueenMabby · 06/06/2024 13:46

I've reported the above post as spam.

Does that mean we've "made it" as a thread if we're getting spammed?? 🤣

Penguinsa · 06/06/2024 13:56

I quite fancied playing Hamster Kombat though didn't expect middle aged mothers were the target market 😂DS would love that game.

Mumski45 · 06/06/2024 14:07

DS found AQA physics tough today but managed to finish. Not sure if he answered every question well but at least he didn't run out of time which is what usually happens. He seems to take comfort from the fact that everyone found it hard so grade boundaries will take it into account.

Penguinsa · 06/06/2024 14:54

DD now back and said business had perfect questions with weird extracts but she managed to relate them. She said that everyone found physics really difficult and is at a school where they get lots of A stars so they think boundaries will be low.

SooperOuting · 06/06/2024 17:25

DD at an after school revision session offered by Head of Dept ahead of paper 3 next week.

Next week once they are over is going to feel so weird!!!

space99 · 06/06/2024 17:57

So jealous of those of you with DC who have finished or are due to finish next week.
My DS has economics paper 3 tomorrow, maths on Tuesday and then the last exam is maths on the 20th.

space99 · 06/06/2024 17:58

Oh and super news @Penguinsa you must be so relieved.

Aardvarksforall · 06/06/2024 18:37

All done now. It's actually a bit of an anticlimax. Thankfully Business was OK (we think). Quiet relief that it's all over. Tomorrow we start with the Herculean task of tidying DC's room!

Rollergirl11 · 06/06/2024 18:43

Congrats on the all clear @Penguinsa!

@LouisCatorze must be a sense of relief to have them over and done with!

DD has still only done 3 and has 4 left. History Paper 2 tomorrow and then RE paper 1 on Monday followed by last History on Tuesday. Then final RE the following Monday.

It’s her girls holiday to Malia in just over 3 weeks time. Think I’ll probably be a nervous wreck while she’s there. Just hope that they are savvy, look out for each other and keep their wits about them.

Good news @Penguinsa !
we are now in single digits: 4 down and 9 to go…further mechanics tomorrow.

Pleasealexa · 06/06/2024 19:30

@Mumski45 I think AQA was tough today whereas OCR was deemed easier...not a large sample size just have a few nephews/nieces and ds friends taking the various physics boards.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 06/06/2024 21:07

So pleased for you @Penguinsa

Must be an amazing feeling for those who are finished, can't really get my head around what that will feel like! Pressing on with further maths mechanics tomorrow. He did OCR physics 2 this morning and said it was fine.

Hope the mouth ulcers clear up @SooperOuting my DS had one last week, I made him take extra vitamin C to help clear it. They can be a sign of stress I think and very painful.

Mumski45 · 06/06/2024 22:05

@ShanghaiDiva we are 5 down and 8 to go - also Further Mechanics tomorrow. Also have DS2 on GCSE's with 16 down 8 to go. Not much fun in our house at the moment.
@Pleasealexa all the chatter on X is that it was a nightmare paper so we are taking comfort from that.
Good luck to all for tomorrow.

MirandaWest · 07/06/2024 08:50

DD's biggest exam day today - Spanish this morning and History this afternoon.

She thinks she prefers it this way round as she knows she'll be worn out after History so at least she won't have to do another exam after that!

She seemed OK when she left the house so am hoping things will go all right.

space99 · 07/06/2024 09:10

Must be tough having 2 exams in one day. My DS has been lucky this year in that respect although they are dragging on. He started early May and doesn’t finish until the 20th. Hope your DD gets on okay @MirandaWest

Penguinsa · 07/06/2024 09:33

Thanks Space Hope economics goes well today.

Great you are all done Aardvark Also need DDs room to be tidier after though will be relaxing first and probably won't happen😂

Thanks Rollergirl Good luck for history today and holiday sounds good fun.

Thanks Shanghai Good luck for further mechanics and 9 more.

Thanks Ithink Wishing you and your DS all lots of luck for all the exams.

Hope the 2 exams go well Miranda Tough to have 2 in one day though at least there's the weekend after.

Just have 2 left here, both the maths, Tues and 20th. DD was going to work on Saturday but managed to persuade her maybe better to concentrate on the next maths exam on Tues (pure and mechanics) and work after that and she applied to change shifts. She has booked the holiday with her boyfriend to Kefalonia but decided not to go with the other boys interrailing now - I think it would have been fun but she would have been the only girl and they were planning on staying in hostels / cheap hotels. May go away with her myself as well. She was talking about taking DH out for Father's Day. Not seeing her boyfriend this weekend as he is a scientist so back to back with exams. I didn't realise sciences would be last but DD says its as essay subjects take longer to mark but worked well for her with 2 humanities and 1 maths.

Lightsabre · 07/06/2024 09:40

Good luck to all for todays exams and good to hear your news Penguisa.

Ds is almost half way through after today. He's a bit nervous for his Chemistry exams starting next week as he needs to get an A star to meet his firmed offer.

QueenMabby · 07/06/2024 09:44

Good luck for all those examinating today!

We're on the push for Chem 1 on Monday too @Lightsabre. An A needed for us. Should be doable - he got an A in his mock - but it'll be paper 2 (organic) that might be his stumbling block. Not helped by the fact that his younger sister's favourite subject is chemistry and she loves organic and has what seems to be an encyclopaedic knowledge of it all which just winds him up as he finds it hard to memorise!

Penguinsa · 07/06/2024 11:06

Thanks Light Good luck for todays exams and hope he gets the A star he needs in chemistry.

DD has just came out and drinking an iced starbucks and eating a croissant and cuddling Floof.

Lightsabre · 07/06/2024 15:58

Thanks Penguinsa and Queenmabby I feel your pain. Ds found FM Mechanics hard this afternoon (ocr b).However his friends did too. Luckily he doesn't need FM for any of his offers but he wants to make his predicted grade in it at least.
