All welcome as our young people head in to their last full term before the summer exams. Between UCAS applications, receiving offers/rejections, learning to drive and taking driving tests, revising for mocks and sitting them the pace hasn’t let up for our DC.

This thread has been a lovely supportive and immensely helpful place to talk as we guide our DC’s through this challenging time!

@NeverForgetYourDreams I hope your ds hears soon. Fingers crossed for a "yes"!

@Rollergirl11 - full marks is fantastic. Well done to your dd and also fingers crossed for the history mark.

Revengeofthepangolins · 22/04/2024 11:42

Gosh to full marks on NEA @Rollergirl11 ! Congrats to her

SooperOuting · 22/04/2024 14:42

Full marks is amazing! Well done to your DD @Rollergirl11

Lightsabre · 22/04/2024 15:34

Great results for those receiving NEA marks back. A nice confidence boost prior to the exams.

We've decided to squeeze in a short European break a couple of days after ds last exam. He has one day in school at the end of June for a special assembly then the leavers do the week after. So excited about never having to holiday in the main school holidays again! Looking forward to cheaper holidays.

It’s mad to expect most 17 year olds to know what careers they want. University is great because it gives you time to decide - and study a subject you love.

The 2 A levels he is “failing spectacularly” - is this because he isn’t engaging with them and doing any work? Could he see himself studying something at uni allied to the one A level he is really enjoying?

FWIW I know quite a few shy YPs who have really come out of themselves and blossomed at uni. It’s not always casual work that provides self confidence.

legosnowqueen · 22/04/2024 20:53

Incredible news's @Rollergirl11 well done to your DD! What a confidence booster...

@NeverForgetYourDreams fingers crossed your DS hears about the job soon! What is it doing?

Apprentice travel consultant.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 22/04/2024 21:33

So……just got mark for his cooking assignment. Distinction. Now just waiting for the final BTEC mark. Year one was distinction star. I’m hoping overall mark is DDM so uni isn’t ruled out if he changes his mind one day

if interested here are his final dishes …..

if he doesn’t get this apprenticeship he can always do hotel work like he planned to do before he decided may want a stab at something different with better hours ! Having said that he’s now thinking of applying for a cabin crew course !

Apprentice travel consultant.

Oooh I used to work in travel, a loooong time ago. Still miss it! All the best to him! 🤞

Aardvarksforall · 23/04/2024 18:40

First panic here today. Thought we'd have had more by now to be honest. I wasn't feeling the stress until now ...

That looks scrumptious! Creme caramel? YUM

@Aardvarksforall oh no. It’s all getting a bit close, isn’t it? I must stock up on gin….

DS has just gone back for his end of year exams at uni. It’s a much calmer place without him….he is back the weekend before DDs first A level though 🙄

MrsAvocet · 23/04/2024 19:40

Bit of relief here. DS definitely doesn't have to go to moderation for his PE practical work, which given he is currently injured is probably a very good thing! 😂

NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/04/2024 20:23

Game set match. Now the proud parent of a travel apprentice. :-). Can relax for 18 months now !

NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/04/2024 20:24

He got it!!!!!

Ah that’s BRILLIANT!!! I had so very many happy years working in travel. Great news! 🥂🍾🎊

SooperOuting · 23/04/2024 20:40

Discounted travel and fabulous food - doesn’t get much better than that in my book!!

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 23/04/2024 21:37

@NeverForgetYourDreams woohoo! So pleased for him (and you!) Food looks amazing, don't think my DS can cook anything more complicated than beans on toast! Hoping I can show him some basics in the summer.

Well done to those getting coursework marks back.

His first exam four weeks tomorrow! I had a bit of a panic this morning when his exam timetable came via email but didn't include the STEP exams, apparently they are separate for some reason. Really hoping the exams officers at his college know what they are doing.

QueenMabby · 23/04/2024 21:45

@NeverForgetYourDreams - well done your ds. Congratulations!

space99 · 23/04/2024 21:56

Congratulations to your DS @NeverForgetYourDreams When does the apprenticeship start?
My DS finishes school a week today and then start his exams the week after. I’m still in shock as it only seems 5 minutes since GCSEs.

Thanks. End July. He’s got to hand notice in to the part time job he loves in June. Tough life lesson to learn that one - it made a man of him that job and brought him out of himself ……

Penguinsa · 23/04/2024 23:09

Congrats Never and his cooking looks great too, hope you benefit from that at home, such a useful skill to have.

DD is reasonable at cooking though not the presentation skills of your DS, does things like homemade pizza, homemade lasagne with veg, ratatouille, veg English breakfast but DS is much more limited - uses the toaster to make toast and hot cross buns then adds lots of butter, puts garlic bread in the oven and heats up takeaway chicken korma in the microwave and makes hot chocolate.

So close to exams now, think its about 3 weeks for DD and she has a 2 week gap in the middle so quite good on timings but strange to think they'll be leaving home in a few months. Though she says she'll be back every 6 weeks and all the holidays which are long and its only a couple of hours away. She missed first week back at school as she was a bit ill but back in this week though saying she may stay home tomorrow as she can get more done here. Been out with her boyfriend tonight - the cat loves him as he always comes for a cuddle after he drops DD off in his car and the cat literally flies down leaping about 4 metres to see them. They are trying to decide on a holiday to take over the summer.

QueenMabby · 24/04/2024 07:40

DS's last day is a fortnight today. Not really a day in school as it's just the leavers' service followed by brunch for pupils and parents.

Dd sings in the choir so will get to be a part of her big brother's leaving service which is nice.

DS seems rather too pretty relaxed about exams so far. He's steadily doing about 3 hours a night in the week and about 6 hours a day at the weekend. He has Thursdays "off". School is just all revision too which helps.
