Thinking of studying accounting

Hello, I am seeking for some advice atm. I am interested in accounting and would like to study, but I work in a completely different field right now. I have already made some research but it just made me kind of confused. What course is the best to do? Also, is it possible to do it online? At the local University there is an accounting and finance course, but that is a 4 years one with 1 year pain apprenticeship. Would it make sense to do that course or is it better to do different one? I just want to make sure, once I invest money in education, it will worth it et the end and will pay off if that makes sense. If you have any advice, please share with me! Thank you in advance!

I’m doing a part time AAT level 2 course at my local college. 1 morning a week and online classes. I get study release from work.
It’s free because the council funds those earning under £30k.

look into it.

most will tell you to go for the ACCA but AAT will give you the foundations you need.

Also, I am 33 years old , am I not too old for this course?

I would go down the route of the AAT rather than a degree course.

No imo!

@Mumofacutie I’m 32 and started a few weeks ago. I do work in a finance team so have a little understanding but they’ve encouraged me to study to get the qualifications under my belt.

it’s a 19+ course so I don’t feel like a grandma haha

A lot of people are studying in their thirties at my place. Including me. I qualified at 35

I did AAT first then ACCA - no comparison to doing straight acca but I did it that way in case I gave up for whatever reason, at least I'd have the AAT qualification!

Either start with AAT or possibly CIMA certificate level which is equivalent to L4 & only has 4 exam papers. These will give you a flavour of the profession. Once you have confirmed your decision that it's the right move for you start looking for vacancies. Apprenticeships are open to all.
