DS considering studying Geography, Maths and Financial Studies. Initially, he was keen to study Economics but the school does not offer this.

Just wondering if any DCs studying financial studies in their A-levels and what's their thoughts are.

Don’t know anything about Financial studies. What about geography with the other two. Better subject for economics and not easy, but solid swell thought of for university.
Any chance of changing schools to somewhere that does Economics? DC 1 changed for VI form to do the subjects they needed. State boarding?

Had a look around for FS studies A Level and it looks sketchy tbh. I’d seriously consider another A Level or school change.

I’m an idiot. He’s already considering Geography. In which case those are two such strong A Levels he could do an easier one with them. What do school advise? Any chance Further Maths? It’s very hard though…

Is Financial Studies actually an A level or is it an equivalent? Probably doesn’t make a difference in practice, but having had a quick look at some of the syllabuses online it doesn’t actually look that useful for economics. He might do better to take a more “standard” third A-level - depending on what the Maths options are, something using statistics would be really helpful.

It looks like an A Level equivalent, so no reason to think it won't be as good as (e.g.) a BTEC etc if he's interested in the subject content.

I'd check to see whether any future university choices will accept this - I would hope they would if he's doing 2 strong A Levels alongside, but forewarned is forearmed (Geography and maths work well together for the statistical bits of geography).

I echo PPs that if he really wants to do Economics, it would be worth changing to a different sixth form if he can.

I would be wary of this if he is considering going to university. How strong were his GCSEs?
