Thanks for those @QueenMabby I will show them to my DS too. He made a bit of a mess of 2 his mocks though fully accepts he didn't work hard enough. He really needs to pull his socks up now though as having just come back from doing some volunteering which has clarified what course he wants to do he knows he needs to pull his maths up considerably if he is to stand any chance of getting in.
I think (well hope anyway!)that he will be more more motivated now he has made a definite decision what he wants to do as he has been a bit lacking in direction recently, having changed him mind about ambitions he'd held for a long time.

StColumbofNavron · 15/08/2023 15:40

I actually love revision and was really sad my MA was all essays. Mindmaps, record cards, past papers. DS2 is GCSE year (great planning) and is going to need some guidance.

DS1 is apparently working on his Russia essay, apparently he doesn't have to do anything at all for his personal statement and doesn't need any help as he will do it when he has to. I assume that this means he has ruled out Oxford.

TBH with 3 teens at various levels of hormonal angst I have checked out a bit because otherwise I might lose it altogether. TBF DS1 will do what he needs to for whatever he decides he wants.

This time next year we'll be gearing up for Results Day. Have friends going through it this year and it's already making me nervous...

sheepdogdelight · 16/08/2023 08:47

I asked DD yesterday about working on her NEAs (which she insisted at the beginning of the holiday she was going to do).
She pulled a face and said that she was intending to go to the library tomorrow (now today) to get some history books. Apparently this was a "must do" on her history teacher's list, so not entirely random. Although DD doesn't actually know what she is writing her history NEA about yet ...

Who else is getting results tomorrow? DD is getting her EPQ result.

stoneysongs · 16/08/2023 08:56

DD has AS results tomorrow - they count for 40% of her final A level grade and will be the basis of her predictions. So she needs to do well to keep the current uni plan A alive 😬

whojamaflip · 16/08/2023 09:25

Dds down with Covid which has brought her plans this week to a screeching halt!

I'm now heading into school tomorrow to pick up her AS results and she's made me promise not to open them! Problem is - if the results aren't what she needs to go hv to year 13 then decisions need to be made in school asap. I may have to take her down in the car and bring her envelope out to her and take it from there.

Bless her she's really poorly this time round (5th time)

Good luck to all getting results tomorrow 🍀

Aaarghthepancakes · 16/08/2023 09:28

I think we must be really late with our EPQs. DC's isn't even due to be submitted until September.

stoneysongs · 16/08/2023 09:38

Ugh @whojamaflip having covid 5 times is very unlucky - but then again she must be due some good luck so 🤞 it turns up tomorrow.

@Aaarghthepancakes DD hasn't even started her EPQ yet, at her FE college they do it in Y13 which seems like a very bad idea to me, especially as she has done 4 x AS and is resisting all advice to give one up. I don't think she realises how much harder Y13 is going to be 😬

NancyJoan · 16/08/2023 09:39

@Aaarghthepancakes , ours too. Will be glad when it's done!

@singingstones AS results here tomorrow. DD won;t go into school, she'll just ring me in work when she gets the email. I wasn't nervous until about two days ago.

Eastisup · 16/08/2023 11:44

Ah, must have been another thread somewhere @Rollergirl11 .

DD also expecting AS results tomorrow but hasn't really mentioned it beyond telling me she's out for the morning to distract herself. Think she's going into school late morning though. Feeling a little nervous now for her but hoping she'll be ok.
Crossing fingers for all those who need specific results!

QueenMabby · 16/08/2023 13:47

No AS results for us but EPQ result due tomorrow. Our school does the EPQ in year 12 so that the students can apply for uni with one result in hand. There are numerous unis/courses where you get a reduced offer if you have an A star or A in the EPQ.

For DS, his first choice course reduces its offer from A star A, A to 3 As with the EPQ result so we're really hoping for an A star or an A tomorrow. That would ease the pressure a bit. It also means ds is just focussing on his three A levels for year 13.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 16/08/2023 14:16

All the best to those getting AS or EPQ results tomorrow. Hope your DD is quickly feeling better @whojamaflip

StColumbofNavron · 16/08/2023 18:19

We have EPQ result due tomorrow as well. I assume the school will just email him. He is intimating that he doesn’t know the arrangements.

legosunqueen · 16/08/2023 18:38

Sobering to hear about covid @whojamaflip hope your DD recovers quickly

DS is expecting his Maths AS result tomorrow, the students go to collect them from 11am. As he has dropped Maths it's not crucial, but of course we all hope he's done well as he worked hard for it. It seems that many universities don't count AS levels in the admission criteria.

No opportunity to celebrate tomorrow night whatever the outcome as he is working in the restaurant in the evening - swapped his Tuesday shift with a year 13 student so that she can celebrate her A level results....good luck everyone who is expecting results tomorrow!

Silkierabbit · 16/08/2023 18:51

Good luck to all those expecting results tomorrow, nothing expected here.

spacechimp79 · 16/08/2023 19:08

Good luck to all the DC expecting AS or EPQ results tomorrow. Nothing for my DS but his gf is getting her AS results and is very nervous.

spacechimp79 · 16/08/2023 19:09

Oh and my DS passed his driving theory this week. I’m so thrilled as I know he found the hazard perception part difficult to master.

nicky2512 · 16/08/2023 19:20

@MirandaWest What did you think of Belfast? I went to university there and dd is going into her final year shortly. Just down the road from us so shout if you have any questions!

AS results for ds tomorrow. Dreading it. He doesn’t feel they went well. He worked so hard so would love him to be happy with what he gets.

PaddingtonPaddington · 16/08/2023 21:33

Good luck for all those getting results tomorrow and well done @spacechimp79 to your DS for passing driving theory.

I’m currently looking at clearing in anticipation for next year. Interesting to see Lancaster physics with entry requirements AAA but in clearing for ABC, also Nottingham Physics AstarAA in clearing for ABB, Loughborough ABB in clearing with BBB, Warwick has none, York only for international applicants, Bath showing in clearing but still seems the same entry requirements. Will check again tomorrow to see if there are more and update DSs spreadsheet! All good intel.

Lbet · 17/08/2023 07:18

Morning everyone,
My daughter Is about to enter year 13. Her subjects are chemistry, biology and business studies.
She has found A levels extremely hard but wants to do well. She is having chemistry tutouring as she was really struggling with that subject.

Thankfully she has her mind set on doing a gap year. I think that is because our son did the same. He worked for the whole of his gap year and managed to save £10,000 to start uni with along with his £4,000 minimum maintenence loan. He found this the right thing to do for him as he knew what A level grades achieved before he decided what his next step would be.

I am so glad my daughter has witnessed what has worked for him and wants to go down the same route.

Rollergirl11 · 17/08/2023 07:50

Good luck for everyone awaiting AS and EPQ grades today! 🙏🤞

DS's room is still suspiciously dark. I have to leave in 15 mins to take dd to an activity. An hour round trip. Do I check in with him before I go or not??

QueenMabby · 17/08/2023 08:17

Stuck my head round. He was awake. Checked the school portal and result was there - an A! We were hopeful as we knew his raw score but nice to have it confirmed.

MirandaWest · 17/08/2023 08:27

Well done to your DS @QueenMabby 😃

MirandaWest · 17/08/2023 08:29

After last year with A Level results for DS and GCSEs for DD I hoped this year would have no results but instead DSs girlfriend is getting her A Level results.

DS has had a year out and by (nice) coincidence they are both hopefully going to the same university. Am quite nervous though…
