A level boundaries

Evening all, I was just wandering if anyone has heard about the grade boundaries for this year 13 sitting the exams?

My ds has said it is going to be 3-5% more than last year and he has started to get anxious about it.

Are they going to make it harder this year? Just trying to support him and give him confidence but behind the scene thinking my goodness I hope not!

Back to 2019 I'd assume, that was the original plan they announced years ago. But obviously they can change year on year etc.

Like GCSEs, A levels are meant to be going back to 2019 grading but that's not the same as the boundaries

The same percentage should be getting A stars or As or Bs as in 2019.
However if this year's cohort do a bit worse, e.g. because this is their first public exams, or because their foundations were less good due to disrupted GCSEs, then the actual grade boundaries , the amount or marks to get to a grade, could easily be lower.

There is no point your DS getting anxious, he can't control any of that. He just has to go for every mark he can. And presumably his teachers have been predicting based on 2019 / 2018 quality, not on 2022 grades boundaries.

Yes agree with @TeenDivided . No one knows what the grade boundaries are going to be this year including the exam board and schools. What they do know is they plan to give out the same number of 9, 8, 7's / A stars, A's as 2019 but within education there is a hope they will be more generous to compensate for the loss of education over past 3 years etc. Please tell your ds not to worry.

My daughter's school marked the mocks according to 2019 boundaries. Which helps give them an idea of where they are, even if they won't know the exact boundaries until the exams are done.

As others have said, it's the same proportion of grades as 2019, so grade boundaries could be very low.

At this stage, it is not really worth worrying about, the important thing is to do the very best he can in his exams. I think most people in his year group are in a similar boat of lockdown end of y10, significant disruption to y11 including another lockdown, some disruption last year and a more settled year this year.

Some may have had more disruption than others in y11, but that shouldn't have such a significant impact now.

I would imagine the grades he's been getting in mocks will be a reasonable prediction of how he will do in the future.
