What a levels for game design degree?

My dc is looking at their a-level choices.
They want to do Game Design at uni.
For a levels they are going to to Computer Science & Maths. They are stuck on the 3rd options Physics or Btec in Creative imedia?

Are there any game designers out there who can advise us? Many thanks!

Physics is important for the graphics element.

Physics would also keep his options open and goes well with maths and computer science.

Art or graphics?

@whattodo01 art is very important for game design. Have a search of some current threads on the Higher Education board, there is one in particular which is quite detailed. Or look at The Student Room & The Rookies.
Some of the best degree courses are at:
University of Hertfordshire
Arts University Bournemouth (AUB)
Bournemouth University
Abertay
UWE Bristol
South Wales
Manchester Met
Teeside

Wild card subject to consider: psychology.

Obvs not useful in the design in terms of how a game looks. But useful alongside many comp sci areas because of user interface

Physics.
Physics engines for games are a really big thing, and while the mechanics subjects in maths will help a lot, physics will also help.

Another one to consider is art, if the preference is for more variety than three STEM subjects.

I think another A level is a far better choice than a non A level qualification.
A levels will get them into a much wider range of universities and courses than 2 A levels and a BTEC.

Art or Graphics? Our local college Confetti in Nottingham, they have different courses for Games Art and Games Technology. The art course open day was full of models and story boards, the technology was much more programming oriented, although I'm sure there is overlap between them.

Those are BTEC level 3 courses if of interest as an alternative to A levels?

ELAM in London does a 2 year L3 Extended BTEC in game design that might be worth looking at
