Btec level 3 extended diploma. Workload

DD2 has started a btec. So far her workload is really light. Whilst thankful to be past the stress of studying for GCSEs past few years, it's a bigger contrast than we'd anticipated, as she has barely anything she needs to be doing in the evenings or weekend. It could be she's managing to get all work done in free study periods, but I winded what the experience of others have been? Do they ease them in gently the first term and then the workload increases? She's gone the btec route as she wasn't able to manage revision and terminal exams.

My DD's was a few years back, but iirc it did ramp up after half term. That is because the first few weeks they were learning stuff, but then they started getting actual assignments to do which started taking extra time.
I think the workload is more steady than A levels though and it might be that actually working in frees at college (as opposed to what my DD eneded up doing) you could get everything done quite happily.

What is she studying? (DD1 did BTEC L3 Travel&Tourism, DD2 is doing Animal Care as a L1 City&Guilds)

Also it depends where she 'aims' for each assignment. If you aim for Distinctions there will probably be more work than if you aim lower.

The answer is going to depend on what she is studying DD did performing arts so everyday there were logs for every class along with assignments and lines to be learnt and research on shows and songs.

Ds did music.

he was lucky that because Dh is a musician we had a studio, equipment and software at home but most stuff was designed to be able to be completed in college hours/free periods.

As assesment deadlines loomed there were extra rehearsals, performances and compositions plus logs and evaluations to do.

Very little homework per se but lots of assignments that counted towards the grade. Nothing in the first half term though.

Same here with DS.

Has she started doing any assignments yet? If not, her workload is likely to be light, but if she is working towards assignments I'd expect her to have some work that needed doing at home. Some courses teach all the exam content first, though, or similar.

If she's done any assignments so far, what are her grades like?
