Dd a level choices - concerned?

Looking for some advice please?

My dd started a levels yesterday and her choices are biology, geography and double btec PE.

She is also national level in her sport which means 24 hours training a week and since she started secondary school this has meant her leaving early one day a week at 12 for daytime training.

Unfortunately this year that would mean her missing biology practicals every week which (understandably) school are not happy about.

Dd is thinking about dropping biology which would free her timetable up to allow her to continue to train but I'm really concerned she's going to limit her opportunities at uni level.

To add she has no idea what career she wants to do - she's interested in sport, outdoors and wants something active but not really interested in sports science.

We have a meeting with school this afternoon to discuss going forward - they are extremely supportive of her sports commitments and are definitely trying to work out a solution.

Should she drop biology or would it be better to change her other choices? Dropping to single PE isn't an option as the class is full.

Any advice would be welcome

Is there more than 1 class for Biology? Otherwise dropping something else instead won't help.
What does she think she wants to do at Uni? Have you looked at the requirements? Geography counts as a science. Biology presumably has quite an overlap with the BTEC on the science side?

Just read she doesn't know what she wants to do.
Why not look at what eg Loughborough offers and see what interests her and what the course requirements are in terms of subjects if not grades?

all I can add is that biology is a tough A level. I’d ask them what her realistic chances are if passing in the circumstances.

I've just downloaded the Loughborough prospectus so will sit with dd and have a look later.

Will ask if there is space in other biology classes and what that would mean for her other subjects and her timetable.

If I'm being honest I think dd will struggle with doing biology if she keeps both geography and the double pe due to her training load. So I suppose my next question is would it be better to drop geography and keep biology?

She's my first to be considering uni and when I went we still had the option of Ucca and Pcas so had a lot more choice so I'm not that confident in advising her 😞

OP have you thought about alternative provisions which might suit her schedule better? If she drops one of the A Levels in that setting could she do access material to do an online A Level for the one she drops. I appreciated it may be harder with practical subjects like Biology or Geography but I know many sporting families choose this option due to training schedules? Just a thought.

I haven't - wasn't aware that was an option. I will look into that as it may be the way to go. Thankyou
