Btech level 3

My daughter has chosen to do a performing arts Btech. She may decide to go on to do teaching (primary) would the points be enough for her to do a degree if that's what she decides? I initially thought it was a T level but it isn't and I'm now worried.

She got good enough grades to do her A levels of her choice but is worried the writing side will be too much for her.

Yes you can do degrees if you do well enough on BTECs.
However do check that the actual BTEC chosen would be considered 'suitable' as entry to teaching. (I have no reason to believe it wouldn't be, but suggest you check with a couple of places beforehand.)

Don't worry about it not being a T level. They aren't rolled out properly yet anyway.

I've just realised it's only worth 2 a levels and not 3. I'm so confused and can't work out how to find out what she could do with it if she passes well

Ok have checked and she's doing the extended diploma worth 3 A levels

I would still check the requirements for a teaching degree & that performing arts BTEC would be acceptable. As I say, no reason to think it wouldn't be (& she could be in charge of all the Christmas and and of year productions), but worth checking.

@TeenDivided I've had a quick look at a UCAS thing where you put qualifications in and it seems to be ok.

As a primary school teacher myself most of it is performing so I think it might be a good qualification to have 🤣🤣

Just one thing... if she is worried about writing , does she have a full understanding of what being a modern primary teacher entails? Sadly, the arts have been sidelined. It's great to add those talents to a primary school, but primary teachers teach maths, reading, writing etc etc.

@Piggywaspushed she got a 7 in her English language and a 6 in her maths so should be fine teaching those (6 in all her separate sciences too) and an 8 in history so she should be capable. She is under diagnosis for adhd and I think organising her thoughts can be tricky for extended essays. I'm a teacher so I think she'd be fine with the written work required but you are right there is a surprising amount!!

Those are really good grades : well done to her.

Has she got the option of doing one A level along side her btec, it may give her more options when applying for different university courses.

My son has just comleted a BTEC in Music Performance and has lots of friends who did Performing Arts (Musical Theatre).

He had the pick of music degree courses, there were only around 6/7 universities that were closed to him.

Ds's form tutor at his High School got into teaching via the BTEC route.

@Piggywaspushed thank you! I am so proud of her as it doesn't come easy but she worked her socks off!!

@Skiphopbump I'm not sure about another A level or if she'll have time as the course is full on, 9-5.30 everyday plus some evening rehearsals when needed!

@Comefromaway that's good to know, thanks
