What do we need for Uni

Just that really. DD heading to uni, will be staying in halls. We have the list of essentials (duvet, crockery etc) but looking for ideas of what to bring that will make the transition easier. What did you give your dc?

Depending on how far away you are, we did a trip down after about 2-3 weeks so that we could bring down anything that they found they needed, or buy it.

It gave them chance to see what others had brought down that might be useful.

"Flip flops for the shower" blimey it's not prison!

Take a look before they move in, that is the cleanest the shared showers will ever be. Take a look at the end of freshers week before cleaning day...

Mine never got used to standing in scum when shower drains were blocked by hair. A bottle of drain unblocker is handy so they don't have to drag strangers' scummy hair out.

As pp's, less than you think, and definitely less than a lot of these uni lists, or uni boxes, make you think you need.

Most uni's also hold second hand eco sales in freshers. Lots of stuff gets left by previous years students. DD picked up a huge airer for £5 which her whole flat used. They then left it for the next years intake.

Less is more. If you can, plan a follow up trip after a month for things forgotten and to pick up things that are not needed.
I sent DD with way too much cleaning stuff- cleaning wipes and bleach was all that were used 😆

Overheard in Ikea way back when doing pre-uni shopping with dd1: No, I absolutely promise you, you do not need a melon baller! The woman's son was reading off his Student Room shopping list.

DC brought his PS4 with him, great way to make friends. People were queueing to play apparently
