DD phoned Sheffield, not any further, she has to wait. This is awful. Not how I think the day would be.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn when I have got scripts back you can see all the examiners marks. The exams officer can also see the number of marks for each question, but not for each sub-question, which was useless for Chemistry as there were a few big questions made of lots of parts. Edexcel scripts were free to download in 2019, that seems to have switched to AQA now.

A friend who was marking GCSE Geography was told to mark generously, but found that (although she is lovely and kind and wants people to do well), she consistently gave marks lower than the moderation papers she was given. Her group leader said 3/3 for SPAG should be exceptional, but the sample marked by the chief examiner was very relaxed about it.

Exams are a terrible way of assessing people for important things and impossible to moderate accurately.

Busying myself making an accommodation list for DD so she can rank them.

I assumed email and slot today, but now think email only today. Or maybe not even that boxcar.! Who knows??

I’ve requested to join that group and am still pending as well!

I think we might have put Tennis Court/Green Community/Aitken as the top ones, but I can’t remember much beyond that!

Why change the way they allocate things halfway through the process??

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee my mum died five years ago and I too was desperate to speak to her, she'd be so proud.

@cheninblanc @Benjispruce4 and any others still waiting for news, I have everything crossed that it all works out. Was in the same situation a couple of years ago and it's awful. We were in limbo from July 5th (IB results) until 2 days after A level results (although in fact only 1 day for DD, but she was out partying when she heard and forgot to tell me until the next morning). Whatever happens, all will be well, but finding the patience not to go mad is a challenge.

Well done to everyone celebrating today. Just a quick heads up to those who suffered unexpected low grades affecting uni places.. had a call from my dc's teacher just now as she was shocked by the drop from expected A star to a B (which meant dc lost their uni place this morning) - she's done some digging and found there's a discrepancy in the marking and looks like one of the sections didn't get marked, or was not added to the total mark. Investigations under way and it's looking hopeful. Thank god she was on the ball! Just flagging it in case it helps anyone. All best of luck to everyone's dcs in their next chapter!

Wasn't the best start to the day, DS's grades were all at least one grade lower than his predicted , so he got rejected by his first choice course.

Managed to turn it around slightly though in clearing - different course and with a foundation year attached - but at the same Uni, so he's happy! Would have preferred no foundation year but he's still heading off to Uni as he wanted so we're happy with that.

Now the nightmare to wait for Reading to confirm his clearing place. He lost his original accommodation so has to reapply. Just hoping there's something left...

Well done on everyone's results! Glad the day is mainly over. I'm running on about 2 hours sleep...

Been wading round clearing all day as DS missed both firm and insurance. He has an offer from Strathclyde - does anyone have any experience or knowledge of it as a uni? It seems to do v well for Economics and Business in the lists.

I'm so sorry to those still waiting. Dd said I was being dramatic when I had today and tomorrow kept free just in case, but it's all so unknown.

Great news that he is sorted Sofaking. What will he be studying?

Anyone know how long it takes for uni to make a decision clearing? I thought it would be within hours.

Thanks @Appuskidu & @Piggywaspushed I’ve managed to persuade her to promise to forward any emails to me (nothing yet). She’s heading to the pub in a minute so there’s no chance she’s checking tonight. But then I would imagine that’s the same for the majority of them!

She wants the Vale & en suite so the least expensive of them would be our perfect compromise! She’s doing Eng Lit & Drama.

My Dsis is working at clearing in Newcastle & said their is a group of academics on hand to make decisions for each subject, so I assumed it wouldn’t be very long if similar at Sheffield. It must be agonising for you all.

Sorry to see that today has been stressful for lots of you and your students. Hoping that those of you still trying to sort things out get sorted soon and that it turns out to be a plan that your young people are really happy with.

My dd got better grades than she needed and so will be off to Winchester in a few weeks time!
