@Benjispruce4 What subject is she looking for? Sheffield does seem to have lots in clearing. Not sure what that indicates…

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 11:06

Hope those who didn't get their first choice get sorted. I was white perished for dd to try Notts in clearing but it wasn't needed.
She only got her grades though and not raw scores to show how close to the grade boundary. Someone has put they were one mark of the next grade but how do they know?

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 11:07

White perished?!!! BlushBlush quite prepared!

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:09

@Dreikanter thank you so much!

so DS was about 16 marks off the next grade up. Shame but not worth a re-mark

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 11:09

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 10:53

Thanks @Babyroobs she is looking at U of Sheffield now. Two possibilities and on train line to bf in Leeds.

Sheffield is a great uni and a great uni town. That would be a much better choice than York St. John.

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 11:11

Sheffield U is fab and a lovely city . Really hoping all Dcs get sorted today. x

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 11:11

I should know this being 3rd time round - do they need to do something to accept the place they have been offered? Ds can’t apply for accommodation I guess until he does something

Zebracat · 18/08/2022 11:11

@NCTDN I was definitely white perished!

Isthisjustnormal · 18/08/2022 11:12

Sheffield is a fab option, @Benjispruce4 - such a friendly town and a very popular uni at the mo. My bro went there and never left! More affordable than York too!!

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:13

Sheffield is great @Benjispruce4 DS really liked it there and would have been his insurance but felt it was a bit too far away

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:14

@Decorhate ucas says they don’t need to do anything but we haven’t heard anything from the uni so a bit concerned. Don’t want to miss booking accommodation etc

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2022 11:15

Babyroobs · 18/08/2022 10:40

Thanks Zebracat. His insurance was Aston Birmingham, but not sure he is keen on there now.

It is hard for you to know unless you can log into UCAS, but missing grades does not mean he has definitely not got his Firm. Unfortunately Psychology is very competitive, but UCAS might show that he is still being considered.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 11:19

Yes, Monkey, it was the friend of a friend, and she somehow worked a miracle in 5 weeks!

Thanks, Delphi, and ditto back!

I can’t keep up with all the news, but commiserations for all DCs struggling to deal with disappointment today. So, so hard after the toughest 2 years; I hope they can find some hope in other avenues very quickly.

cinnamon, if your DD does come to Cardiff, I would be very happy to be an emergency contact or even just someone to call if she’s having a wobble when she’s here.
I did the same for a friend of my DNiece, and it was lovely for all of us - we’re still in touch a decade later.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 11:20

Sheffield was a VERY close 3rd/4th choice for DS. We really really liked offer holder day benji.

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 18/08/2022 11:00

So a really bad day in the exam hall for Music and composition downgraded , she wasn't near the grade boundary as it turns out.

Cardiff had changed her offer to unconditional, which is how she got the place.

She is worried about her anxiety at Cardiff due to distance. But she has come on so well in that respect over the last few months.

On hold to Southampton which I just feel is a waste of time. No places in clearing and didn't meet the low offer they gave her.

Ok, so Royal Holloway have offered her the course but with a foundation year which she is adamant she doesn’t want to do. We pointed out her results are above the CCC they have listed for clearing but they said ‘sorry that’s an error’ 😐.
Also now calling Southampton but like you feel it’s probably not a goer.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 11:25

Wait... do we have to accept something now on UCAS???

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 11:27

Fiddler sometimes they need to log onto the uni portal - the uni should have emailed log in info, maybe some time ago - see if that jogs your dc’s memory!

DD hasn’t-it just says you’ve met the conditions of the offer and the place is confirmed, but you can decline if you don’t want it.

Congrats on your DS, @Piggywaspushed is it Brum he got as well?

DoggerelBank · 18/08/2022 11:29

Echoing the love for Sheffield. Very friendly, nice size, guaranteed accommodation for people in clearing, lovely student village that's walking distance to everywhere (and has a bar), cheap accommodation in 2nd and 3rd year, solid academic reputation, and wonderful countryside to escape into.

Mine is into Manchester, with solid grades. I'm very happy, as we will have 2 kids in the same city for the next 3 years.

Huge congrats to everyone with the grades they needed, and a big hug to those with disappointing news. I'm sure all will work out well in the end, but it can be a horrid process getting there.

@Monkey2001 Fingers firmly crossed that Newcastle comes good. Fantastic grades!

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2022 11:30

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:02

Thank you @Monkey2001 and @PaddingtonPaddington it’s AQA I need and I can’t find it either

I have just discovered that access to scripts is now free for AQA, I think that means your exams officer can download the AQA scripts and send them to you.

JanetheObscure · 18/08/2022 11:31

Just to add to Sheffield Uni praise. In 2019 my DD turned down her confirmed place at Exeter on results day and put herself through clearing specifically to go to Sheffield (long story…). Despite COVID, she has had a fantastic time there and has got a job in the city following graduation - I think Sheffield the city retains more students after graduation than just about anywhere else. It’s fab :).

Oh hi appu, just thinking about you!

Yes, and now waiting for the accommodation bunfight...

Chakraleaf · 18/08/2022 11:33

My son was predicted CCC and got BDC

He has got his first choice accepted.

Much relief.

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:33

Thanks @Delphigirl we have logged on and there is a letter there saying congrats and they will be in touch with next steps over the next few days

singingstones · 18/08/2022 11:34

DS got AAB, up from CCU in Y12 and BCD in mocks 🌟
I will move on shortly but I am thinking a bit about his teachers who wouldn't predict anything higher than a C in physics and biology..

Keep your chins up those of you still fighting for your DC 💪
