Kimbolton interview process

I am looking to join Kimbolton’s sixth form in September, however I am extremely nervous for the interview. Can anyone tell me what kind of questions they will ask, or if they will be difficult? Thanks :)

@blvebelle
I’m not familiar with Kimbolton but both my daughters applied for 6th forms at independent schools. School 1 asked DD to take tests in her subjects. DD2 wasn’t asked to do this but both were required to have the gcse results required by the school. DD1 applied for a more academic school so her requirements were higher.

As for the interviews, DD1 had subject interviews followed by head. She was asked about why those subjects and her ambitions such as university etc. What else she enjoyed about school and why she wanted a change were asked about.

DD2 had an easier time (but not a competitive school). She was asked about her subjects, what she was interested in after leaving school, hobbies and how she saw herself fitting into school life. In short, why did both DDs went to go to these schools?

So do some research on the school. What could you participate in? What do you enjoy? Why do you want this 6th form? What subjects snd why. Show enthusiasm and be yourself.
If you take tests/meet subject leaders, just do your best.

Hope that helps. Have you been yet?

Hi. I think being confident and being enthusiastic about your subjects usually helps. Being prepared to join in with school life is useful and - show your true self. Don’t sound over prepared. Good luck.

Hi @blvebelle
I have been trying to find some information abound the interview process for Kimbolton's 6th form online.
We live overseas so my kids are not following the UK curriculum, so feel extra nervous about the entry exams and interviews.
How did your interview go and what type of questions did they ask you?
Thank you in advance.

@Hunver I have friends who came to uk from South Africa and not every school will accept alternative qualifications for 6th form entry. I assume Kimbolton will but one assumes tests will be based on pre knowledge and skills required for A level study. If it’s not a hugely selective process, they can be quite lenient. Have you asked what focus the tests take? Usually interviews are about your ability to match the ethos of the school and hobbies, interests and ambitions.

@TizerorFizz thank you ☺️
Kimbolton will accept the kids’ overseas qualifications. I just wanted to know a little bit more about the interview process. Appreciate your response.

My DD did a 6th form interview elsewhere. They chatted about subjects she wanted to do, plans beyond school, her hobbies, what she did at her current school and basically whether she would make the best of what they could offer. The best advice is to think about the subjects, why he wants to study them, what dc can bring to the school (eg mudic, sport etc) and what they might enjoy whilst there (clubs, trips abroad etc). Think about what career might be and be confident throughout. It’s not a grilling, it’s a chat. They will just want to find out more about him.

Great advice. Thank you 😊

Hiya! I had my interview last year and I am now an Upper Sixth student at Kimbolton.

Be prepared to discuss your chosen subjects and why you're interested in them. Any work you’ve done that goes beyond your subject will be especially interesting. This doesn’t have to be especially refined - documentaries, books, films will be very impressive. For instance, I was applying to study an a-level in English Literature, so I was asked what I am currently reading. Familiarise yourself with the sixth form's curriculum, and any special programs or extra-curricular activities they may offer or initiatives related to your subjects that you might like to take part in.

Be ready to expand on the points you made in your application. Reflect on your achievements, experiences, and how they have shaped your academic goals. Discuss any academic achievements, extracurricular activities, or responsibilities you've taken on. Discuss how these experiences have contributed to your personal and academic development.

Maintain a positive attitude throughout the interview. Express enthusiasm for the subjects you've chosen and the prospect of studying at the sixth form. Make sure to focus on extra-curricular activities you might enjoy.

They may also ask you more general interview questions (e.g. describe yourself in three words.) Focus here on academic descriptors - (punctual, diligent, etc).

Best of luck! I hope this helps.
