Level 3 health and social care

I don't think my DD is academic enough to do A levels but she is really struggling with what to do post 16. She doesn't really like the idea of any BTEC or vocational courses at all. She has no idea what she wants to do later on in life - since lockdown she has lost confidence in everything. The only course she is vaguely considering is health and social care which I can't quite grasp why as she hates hospitals and anything medical but she likes the idea of working within mental health or child protection but doesn't want an early years course because if she works with children she prefers the older age group sort of 9plus. The other thing she is adamant about is she doesn't want to work with older people as she saw both great grandmothers spend their last few years in nursing homes and seeing the other residents with dementia freaked her out. Personally I don't think this is the best option for her but It seems to be the only vocational course she will even consider. What I would like to know does work experience have to be done within residential homes?? Can it be done within schools, GP practices, dentists chiropractors etc??

My daughter started this course in September, she achieved mainly 5s at Gcse with the odd 6 and 4s. She was very keen to do this course but isn't particularly enjoying it and has been told the placement has to be in a care home which is due to start in March( however all the ones she is enquiring at will not accept understandably due to covid) . She wanted to do a placement in a special needs school but has been told this isn't an option and it has to be a care home which was not mentioned before she started! This is the level 3 extended diploma so equivalent to 3 A levels that my daughter is doing.

She would definitely cover some relevant content in a health and social care BTEC for working in mental health and child protection so it could be a good fit. Is it worth one or three a levels? She could do psychology along side it.

Work experience isn’t strictly needed for a BTEC, so if it’s offered by school it’ll be however they’ve got it set up but there isn’t anything to stop her organising an alternative that could suit her better.

Hi, I would like to know if you solved your problem and what this person did in the end. Now I'm 16 years old, and soon I have to choose where to go to study, but I still don't quite understand what exactly I need to do. I was thinking of considering the option of working with mental health and enrolling in miami.asa.edu, but I'm also assuming a few more options in this area. I would like to know if there is someone from this branch of work here and what you could advise me as a person at the very beginning of his journey.

@corbinrozmus are you based in the US? Your school guidance counsellor should be able to help you?
