3 A Levels + Core Maths

Is that manageable for both? DD is on the fence (ie not keen) on taking Core Maths but it seems it might be beneficial to her as she's choosing a science-based route. Her teacher says she's more than capable, but I'm just wary of over-committing.

Yes fine

If she does like it or it's too much

Just drop one subject

My DD is Yr 13 and taking A Level Biology, Psychology and PE as well as Core Maths. It's been really helpful for her Biology and Psy apparently. Her school has opted to do it over 2 years so she only have 2 hrs a week (I think). Downside is that she will be taking the exams at the same time as A levels but definately worth doing. It was something I suggested was needed to show she had more than GCSE Maths as she didnt' want to take A level. Some uni offer lower grade with a B in core maths so another plus point.

At my son's sixth form anyone doing a science course must take core maths if they are not taking A level maths as it is really beneficial.

If your DD is worried get her to ask how many hours are timetabled for it. Ds did 4 A levels but no EPQ and still had 5 hours of free periods during school time for years 12 and 13.

That also included a 1 hour assembly slot and a 1 hour tutorial slot, then each subject had 5 hours contact time and he still had 5 hours of free periods. Plus when Enrichment (knitting, football, book club etc) finished he also had another 2 hours free on that day too.
