Masters funding

I am looking to start a full time Masters on September, and I’m wondering how people usually fund post grad study given that a Masters loan will only cover the fees with a bit to spare?

I am also interested in this.

I got work to pay for some of it, since it was related.

I'm doing an MA part time. So loan pays the fees and I work part time to pay for everything else.

I saved up before hand, took out a Career Development Loan and worked part time in retail to keep myself afloat.

I'm full time MSc work is paying plus I am getting my salary still. I'm very lucky ( but stressed to breaking point)

I work full time so I have paid the difference. I am just about to submit my final dissertation. I can't wait. It's been a difficult 2 years juggling work, being a single parent and studying.

I also worked part time. I think my course was 7k, loan was just over 10k if I remember correctly. Part time wages covered the rest of rent & bills etc.

Depends on the MA. I submitted a proposal to the university for one on a subject that benefitted them and they gave me funding for it. You will find that sometimes this is available.

For my second the organisation I worked for funded it, but I had to continue working full time so it was tough.

I'm doing my MSc part time over 2 years so that I can earn and, er, learn.

DD’s fees will be £25k so the loan will hardly touch it with living expenses.

We are taking out a loan for her and she will have to work.

Jumping on with interest here... I’m thinking of doing a long distance Masters with Uni of Kent. I live in NI and it’s a different route seemingly for applying for a student loan. I’m wondering how much people actually do repay and does it ever get written off at the end (I’m 40 and not a high earner). I also want to know how hellish it is when you work full time and you’re a single mum?!

janinlondon · 01/06/2021 15:18

I'm not sure any masters degree in the UK is covered by the loan now...? And because they are paid upfront in most universities it is a challenge. DD is looking at a considerable deficit just to pay fees - before she even considers how to pay for living...

lastqueenofscotland · 06/07/2021 09:41

(A while ago but comparable fee/loan structure) borrowed the cost of the course from family, lived off the loan

Comefromaway · 09/07/2021 22:47

I’m loaning dd the fees and she has a part time job for her living expensive.
