Uniformed Services course

Does anyone have any experience of the NCFE Uniformed Services level 1 course that colleges offer?

My son is 16 and did not sit GCSEs so his choice of college courses is limited. He needs to do a course at college so he can do his Maths and English alongside (he is more than capable) and he thought the Uniformed Services course looked really good as he is interested in personal fitness.

The college website is full of pictures of sailing, diving, building rafts, going on camping trips and doing obstacle courses while gaining a first aid certificate and some leadership skills. It does look very appealing.

However, I really can't believe that it is really just a year of adventure and I am struggling to find out what they really do.

I would love to hear peoples experiences of the course.

My daughter is doing the Level 2 course after having 2 years of terrible mental health and school down grading all her GCSE’s. They do a lot of health and safety, policy and legislation, fitness, practical skills like map reading and orienteering, criteria and expectations for different services and personal development. She seems to like it and passed a gcse in November and hopefully another this summer.

Thank-you so much for that information. We've got an online interview this afternoon.

Is she there everyday? Like school hours?

She is there 3 days a week and 9 - 5 but a couple
Of those sessions were GCSE classes which have decreased. There is a fair few assignments but nothing too taxing if they do a bit each day. I was hesitant at first but she seems to love it. Hope the interview goes well

It's good to hear that she loves it. I want my son to do a course that he enjoys while getting his GCSEs.
