How likely is an unconditional

DD has recently recieved 2 unconditionals to study a mixture of langauges at both Aberdeen and Herriot Watt. Does this mean she is also likely to receive an uncon. to Edinbrugh (dream school). Sorry to MN about something so inane but she's driving me up the fekking tree with her incessant worrying. Hmm

Hi, I don’t think you can ever assume an offer from anywhere, as different universities will have different views on who might be most suitable for their course.

And as Edinburgh is probably more well regarded than the other two universities, I would have thought that it would be unwise to assume that your DD will get an offer at all from there, even if she is a very strong candidate. She can hope for an offer, but I don’t think she should assume it.

Also, I don’t think most of the ‘top’ universities make unconditional offers at all, although I may be wrong.

And well done to your DD - she must be very pleased. Smile

Btw there is a languages thread on the Higher Education board here. You might find that useful too.

I would say an unconditional for Edinburgh is unlikely. It's a very good university, there's a lot of demand for places. Especially this year they may well want to try and do what they can to avoid the mess last year - a lot of students missed out on their place as their moderated grades were unfairly low. They may put offers out this year for higher grades than previously.

If the OP is in Scotland then it is very usual to be given an unconditional as it would be based on grades in hand from 5th year with a top up in 6th year.

OP is your DC taking any AH in languages? If yes then Edinburgh may put a condition on those results. Edinburgh has very good tables on offer statistics but they may not be very useful due to cancellation of exams last year and this year.

Oh sorry OP, I didn’t realise things were different in Scotland, my apologies. Please ignore everything I said! Can’t believe I didn’t know this.

Does your DD have the entry requirements Edinburgh are looking for? I'm assuming she's applying in 6th year with Higher results? If so, she may well receive an unconditional, because she's already met their entry requirements. If not, Edinburgh are like to ask for AH results so would make a conditional offer.

Has your dd met the entry requirements or is she wanting for some results from this year?

Dd received 5 unconditionals but had the grades for all 5 courses.

WAITING not wanting!

I don't see why not if she meets the requirements already.
Also vis à vis Aberdeen. It's as well-regarded as Edinburgh. It really is. Edinburgh I think wins for living environment though.
