Chemistry a level from economics

My daughter is doing geography psychology and economics a level
She's not enjoying economics and would like to swap it for chemistry

She was given a 6/5 in combined science and the college needed a 6/6 entry. Im going to email the college but I'm worried it might be too late for her as she has missed a few weeks already.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this - starting late etc

I know nothing about economics , is chemistry harder

Whats her reasoning for swapping to Chemistry?

I would say college are unlikely to accept her into chemistry four weeks in within the appropriate grades, and she will struggle for a high grade with a 6/5 at GCSE.

Due to the ranking system of the exams this year by the teachers she was placed 7th in her cohort, so she missed a 6-6 by inches, she's really liking the look of forensics hence the need for chemistry.

Chemistry is definitely harder than economics, so if she is allowed to swap she will have a lot of work to catch up on to keep pace with the class.

If she’ll need it for her university choice I’d suggest she approaches it with the college by sharing her short list of universities so they can see she does need it and is invested enough to do the work. Some universities won’t require chemistry though and some will need a second science as well? Not all will count psychology.

Is there an applied science BTEC? This might be another option for her.

The other thing to remember to ask the college is for their grades from past pupils who achieved 6,6 in science at GCSE and what A level grade they came out with for chemistry.

I know noble linked a table for maths GCSE to maths A level grades from EdExcel and it was eye opening.

The table that noble posted was unique to maths. I asked her if she knew about any other similar tables, particularly chemistry. Sadly, she didn’t.
Chemistry A level is hard op. But it depends if your DD has that kind of scientific mind. My DD is doing A level maths, economics and chemistry. She says chemistry is the hardest by far as there’s lots of content plus tricky maths (she likes the tricky maths). She got an 8 in chemistry Gcse and says it’s been a huge huge leap. She finds economics much easier but she enjoys it. Anything they enjoy will just feel easier. Don’t want to put your DD off but A level chemistry is hard. A BTEC science will still get her into university if she gets distinctions and definitely worth a look.

Thanks for the replies. She has decided to stick with economics.... what will be will be!
