What are your academically middle of the road , average grade kids doing after 6th form? DS achieved 5-7’s in his GCSE’s and is going into second year of A levels doing Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. Likely to get BBC in results. Has no clue what do to next. He has no passions or real interests in anything . I really didn’t think uni was for him but struggling on what to suggest. He has no interest in learning a trade. Not into graphic design, gaming, sports etc. He works hard but has short term memory problems and dyslexia so studying is tough. There are no abundance of jobs or apprenticeships now even if he did have a clue on a career to follow.
Anyone else been in the same boat with their DC? Confused

he could take a gap year? that would give him a chance to get some work experience in different fields and find out what he would like to do. UCAS has helpful info about taking a gap year and making it productive

@sleepismysuperpower1 thanks for the link.
He originally planned a gap year to try a few things out but I think Covid is having a huge impact for travelling and jobs etc. I’m also concerned that many students are going to delay uni next year and so if he does decide to go after the gap year then places may be tight 🤨

I would suggest trying to find a job - dd enjoyed working at McDonald's, lots of young people so they socialised after work (obviously pee covid). There's no hurry to study, let him work out where his passion is

I got those exact results and did a Biology degree at a Russel Group uni (my cohort were dim, they let us in even though we missed the grades we needed).

I did love Biology though.

ah, that's true. he could look at something like the mcdonalds management degree apprenticeship scheme? he would work whilst earning a degree in management from a uni

You could get into plenty of universities with those grades - might be worth going to an open day? For some students that’s when it clicks that they’d like to do a degree. Open days are virtual at the moment
