Hi there, I'm looking for some general advice if anybodys done similar before or has any other ideas of ways I could do this. I completed a BA Hons in Business but I didn't do any modules in accounting or finance that would be required for me to do a PGDE to teach business at high school level (was planning to go into business but haven't had any luck and had a change of heart). I spoke with a uni advisor who said I need to complete 2 modules (one in finance and one in accounting) at level 2 or above before being accepted to do a PGDE and recommended local colleges or open university to do so. From the look of finance, I'd pay just over £1000 for the modules from my own pocket and then use the remaining year of "free tuition" I have left to do the PGDE as it costs more than the 2 units. Currently on 18k a year salary at a call centre so would keep that going over the next year alongside the open uni modules and then would quit or go part time if possible alongside the pgde (although I don't believe my job would have the flexibility I require as I think PGDEs can be pretty full on plus I would be entitled to a full bursary to help make ends meet). My husbands on about 22k a year and is expected to get a promotion within the next year. We would also be entitled to some childcare funding for our 2 year old regarding the PGDE both through government hours and through the university. I don't currently have a drivers license but I am working on passing my theory test (failed first attempt) as I know I may be placed at a school that may not be easy to commute by public transport. Investment in the modules now and taking another loan for the pgde means I could be making close to 40k in ten years or so which is what me and husband bring in together at the moment. Once the sale of our house goes through, we'll have about 16k in savings which will be mostly emergency fund. Has anybody got any experience of the PGDE courses or of doing open uni modules individually? Will this limit my earning potential in the future if I decide I don't want to teach business in ten or twenty years time (only 22)?
